About the Composer
David Albert Schramm (b. 1988) was raised in East Hampton, Connecticut.
He attended East Hampton High School and was a full participant in the music program under the direction of Mr. Curt Weybright. (Marching, Concert and Jazz Band, Honors). Graduated Class 2006.
He is currently a Music Education major at Central Connecticut State University.
Has played saxophone (alto, tenor and baritone) since grade four. Participated in several music festivals, including CMEA Regionals, in which he placed second in the region in 2006.
Has taught private saxophone lessons since 2005.
Self-taught music theory, and started composing junior year of high school.
Profound and vast interest in marches. Has one of the largest personal collections of march music recordings in the country. Independently studied marches since 2004.
David is a conducting enthusiast; also self taught.
With an extensive knowledge of performance practices, traditions and styles, David can be considered an expert on march interpretation and direction.
First march, "Parade of the Bandos", premiered in 2005, performed by the East Hampton High School Band and conducted by himself.
"Salute to Simsbury" was chosen to be performed at the CMEA Composer's Festival in 2006, and was played by his future alma mater band, the CCSU Wind Ensemble.
Three other works, "The '06", "Saxy Stars", and "Fantasy and Exploration on The Star Spangled Banner" premiered in 2006 at high school composer's festival, all conducted/performed by Mr. Schramm.
David is studying applied saxophone with Dr. Carl Knox at CCSU. He currently serves as 1st chair saxophonist in the selective CCSU Wind Ensemble and Chamber Winds, as well as the CCSU Symphonic Band under the direction of Dr. Thomas Seddon and leader of the CCSU Saxophone Quartet. He is currently the lead alto saxophonist in the CCSU Jazz Ensemble, and the Drum Major elect of the CCSU Blue Devil Marching Band. David has composed the now official fight song for the band.
Other areas of experience include performing in several rock/pop bands including the Love International Orchestra with Italian singer Gianpaolo DiGrazia , fife in the East Hampton Fife and Drum Corps, and is also competant in flute, and clarinet.
