Hats off to Ringo

This march was written for my good friend Richard Manning. Rich and I first met in high school where we were both active members in the music program. He is now a fellow music eduation major at CCSU, where he plays trumpet in the wind ensemble, jazz band and "Penn Station" jazz combo (which he co-directs). Rich is a big jazz enthusiast but applies himself in many other musical fields. This march can be considered a trumpet feature, heard in the duet introduction and trio. The second strain is Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, one of his favorite orchestral pieces (and mine). The breakstrain features some of his own works, including "Best Song in Eb", an uneasy little tune that was difficult to emulate in a march setting, and also "Drawbar Concerto in F" from his old band "Beef Wind".
